Clinical Biography

Amy Durand, MD, is a board-certified neuro-ophthalmologist in UT Health Austin’s Mitchel and Shannon Wong Eye Institute. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of visual disorders caused by neurologic diseases, including optic nerve abnormalities such as optic neuritis and ischemic optic neuropathy, visual field deficits, pupillary asymmetry, double vision, and eye movement disorders. Additionally, Durand is an assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Durand earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Texas A&M University, where she graduated magna cum laude, and her medical degree from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. She completed a residency in neurology at UTHealth Houston, where she served as chief resident, and a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania at Scheie Eye Institute, Perelman Center, and the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Durand has been invited to present her research at local, national, and international conferences. Her work primarily focuses on neuro-ophthalmology, including idiopathic intracranial hypertension, optic nerve sheath fenestration, and orbital inflammatory disease, with additional contributions in stroke recovery outcomes and pain sensitization. She is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology and the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society.
